Welcome to the NateZynski blog! I’m so thankful that you’ve chosen to spend your time here and am hopeful you will find something valuable here today. I want to introduce myself and share some of my story with you.
For all of the years I’ve played drums, it’s almost been reflexive. That is to say, I never questioned why I was doing it, but always knew it felt natural and I loved to do it. I started like many others, a clueless fourth grader. I can paraphrase my profound mental model:
“Huh, this paper’s blue. Must be important.”
“Which instrument do I want to play? Which one is the clarinet?”
“The drummer was in the back. I think I’ll do that.”
Stunning.
Needless to say, God, or the Force, was on my side that day, because I’ve been at it ever since. It was my respite from high school and dedicated study in college. You could find me in a practice room at any hour of the night--almost every night--working on new repertoire or perfecting my technique. When I graduated I began my career as an educator, which is what I do professionally now.
My mission is bringing these two careers together to provide tools for drummers and percussionists to get to the next level. My goal is to give them long term methods to develop new techniques, bolster their understanding of them, increase their comfort in playing, and deepen their craft. Musicians take ownership of their craft when they become their own teacher, and a great student is one who can also teach themself.
On this site you will find updates on my future performances and bi-weekly blog posts. My goal with the blog is to provide thoughtful insight on interesting subjects surrounding music, which could include science, spirituality, philosophy, or anything else. Check back every other Friday for updates, or sign up to receive emails so you don't miss anything!
I hope you enjoy the site! I’m excited to see where this goes.
